The Black Phone Horror
Scott Derrickson's claustrophobic thriller stands strong despite the lack of a continuation. Located in 1978 Denver, a series of child abductions has left the local kids frightened. When Finney gets captured by the kidnapper and held captive in a basement, he fears a terrible outcome. Yet the disconnected phone mounted nearby keeps ringing, with ghostly voices giving advice, and the prophetic visions of Gwen, his sister may be his salvation. A genuinely scary movie. The Tammy Faye Biopic
In the battle between faith and wealth, the winner is obvious for materialism in Showalter's delightfully tacky film adaptation about the fallen televangelist and her criminal husband. Garfield portrays the venal Jim, who proclaims at the beginning, claiming divine approval for wealth. Both individuals begin profiting from the people's Christian beliefs. It's a spectacle of bad interior design, overdone appearance and hypocrisy, however Chastain succeeds to depict the real-life figure with compassion. Tuesday 14 October, late night, the Film4 channel
